The 'Preserving the memory of World War II and Great Patriotic War' international public forum is being held today in Baku, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reported.
The event is held at Baku Slavic University. Its organizers are the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio and the Association for Studies of Russian Society (AIRO-XXI). The forum was organized with the support of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture, the Russian Science and Culture Center in Azerbaijan. It is attended by representatives of international intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, executive bodies, educational and scientific organizations, NGOs, experts, cultural figures, media representatives, etc.
The forum aims to draw attention to the issues of preserving the historical memory of peoples, supporting the movement against erosion of the value and semantic aspects of history, falsifying the results of World War II; conducting a more active search for new practices to form constructive and creative images of the memory of the Victory over fascism, which would help strengthen mutual understanding and peaceful relations between countries and peoples.
The forum was hosted by the chairman of the Council Council for films and video visualization of the cultural and historical space of Eurasia of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, President of the Eurasian Academy of TV & Radio Valery Ruzin.
During the opening of the forum, welcoming speeches were made by Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Andrei Belyaninov, the President of SPACE TV Channel, the First Vice-President of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Vagif Mustafayev and the Co-Chair of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, the National Secretary of Indian National Congress, President of Politics and Management Fund (India) Dalbir Singh.
President of the Association for Studies of Russian Society Gennady Bordyugov addressed the audience on the topic 'Experience in Preserving Memory in the CIS and Baltic Countries'.
At 14.00 Moscow time, the first session of the forum started - 'Historical aspects of preserving the memory of the war and Victory'. It was moderated by Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, President of the International Association of Asian Historians, Consul General of the SHA-International Ratings Center in the countries of CIS, SCO and BRICS Stanislav Korolev and Professor at Kazakh National University of al-Farabi Laila Akhmetova. There were three speakers at the session. Director of the Center for the History of the Caucasus Rizvan Huseynov told about the strategic importance of the hydrocarbon reserves of Azerbaijan in the victory over fascist Germany. Director of Baku Network Elkhan Aleskerov told about 'Monuments to Soviet soldiers who fell in battles for the liberation of Europe'. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, State Advisor of the 2nd class Namik Aliyev told about preserving the memory of Azerbaijanis who died in the battles for Moldova.
At 15.45 Moscow time, the second session of the forum has begun, dedicated to the media practices of preserving the memory of the war and victory in Azerbaijan. Its moderators are head of the Sputnik press center Ilgar Velizade and president of the International Bloggers Association Nazir Yevloyev. As part of the session, associate professor at the Baku State University`s journalism department Zaur Babaev spoke on the topic 'Reflection and interpretation of the Great Patriotic War on social networks.' Military analyst and host of the 'Radius' program Heydar Mirza told about 'World War II and the Great Patriotic War in the Republic's Media Space.'
The results of the forum will be summed up, and the final document will be adopted at 17.00 Moscow time.
A press conference following the forum will be held on October 3 at 10.00 Moscow time at the Sputnik press center.
